A citizen is a person who belongs to a community or country. Along with having rights, every citizen also has responsibilities. A responsibility is something you should do to help take care of yourself and the people around you.

One important responsibility is following the laws. Laws keep everyone safe and fair, so citizens should obey them, like stopping at stop signs and being kind to others. When people follow laws, the whole community works better.

Another responsibility is telling the truth. Being honest helps people trust each other. When you tell the truth, your friends, family, and teachers know they can count on you, and that makes your community stronger.

Citizens also have the responsibility to respect other people's rights. Remember that everyone has rights, so you should let others speak, learn, and be treated fairly, just like you want to be. Respecting others is how we all get to enjoy our rights together.

There are many other ways to be a good citizen, too. You can help keep your school and park clean, be kind to your neighbors, and take turns and share. Even small acts of caring make your community a nicer place to live.

Rights and responsibilities go together like two sides of a coin. When each citizen does their part, everyone gets to enjoy their rights and live in a safe, fair, and happy community.
