Feelings do not just happen inside your mind. They also send little signals into your body that you can actually feel. Learning to notice these signals is like becoming a detective for your own feelings.

When a big feeling starts, your body often gives you a clue first. A tight tummy, a hot face, or a fast heartbeat can be your body's way of saying a strong feeling is on its way.

Different feelings can leave different clues. When you are nervous, your tummy might feel full of butterflies. When you are angry, your hands might squeeze into fists and your face might feel warm.

When you feel sad, your body can feel heavy and slow, like your arms and legs do not want to move. When you feel happy or excited, you might feel light, bouncy, and full of zippy energy.

These body clues are helpful, not scary. They are early warnings, like a smoke alarm that beeps before a problem gets big. If you notice the clue early, you have more time to take care of yourself.

So try this: a few times a day, pause and ask, what is my body telling me right now? Naming the clue and the feeling out loud makes big feelings easier to handle.
